Augusto González has a degree in Geography and History from University of Madrid (Complutense). He joined the European Commission in 1989 and, as an official, he has worked in various domains, including education, human resources, financial management, research and, since 2008, space.
Augusto held management positions in different Directorates-General of the Commission –DG EAC (Education, Audiovisual and Culture), DG ECFIN (Economic and Financial Affairs ) and DG GROW (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs), where he was Head of Space Policy and Research from 2010 to 2015.
In 2016 Augusto was appointed Adviser for International Relations (dealing mainly with Galileo and EGNOS) and since 2020 he is Adviser for Innovation in the Directorate General for Defence Industry and Space (DEFIS). [Another aspect of Augusto’s work in the Commission is that he is an active member of the Commission staff representation and currently holds the position of President of the Commission’s Brussels Local Staff Committee.]
